Lubomir
Tomaszewski inspires both artists and collectors. He is the
mentor to a group of artists that call themselves Emotionalists.
He and his fellow Emotionalists maintain a deep connection with our
Earth as well as the spiritual and emotional nature of
human beings.
The
gestural quality of Tomaszewski’s sculptures gives them movement
and great power. Viewers always marvel at the fact that he
uses few details and yet his work still appears realistic. Tomaszewski
usually uses rocks and tree branches as he finds them. The
resulting images are thus whispered in his ear by Mother
Nature herself.
Tomasewski
has been a popular artist exhibiting at Brion Galleries since
its 1998 re-opening in Lambertville, NJ.
BIOGRAPHY
Born
in Warsaw, Poland, Lubomir Tomaszewski was a freedom fighter
during WWII. After the war he created numerous sculptures
for the reconstruction of Old Town Warsaw and took first prize
in the sculpture competition for decorating the Palace of Culture
and Science there in 1955.
When
he immigrated to the US in 1966, Tomaszewski took a new approach
to his work. Found rocks and fallen tree limbs became the
catalysts for his creative energy. In combination with
copper, bronze, and other metals, these objects of nature began
to be transformed by him into dramatic, fluid, figurative sculptures. Each
is undeniably unique and elegant. "When Lubomir Tomaszewski
looks at a rock, he sees a piece of sculpture. Something in the
layering, the shape, the natural formation suggests to him the
body of an animal or bird." Said The New York Times on
November 5, 1975. He also creates dramatic dancers and other
human figures which express great energy and sometimes even a touch
of humor.
